Must-Eat Meals: Ohio – Skyline Chili

Apparently Skyline Chili is THE place to go for Cincinnati Chili, which is the must-eat meal of Ohio.  And since we were in Ohio, that was what we had to eat. For those who aren’t aware, Cincinnati Chili is chili served over spaghetti.  It’s not chili like I am used to; the spices are definitely unique including cinnamon.  It was good, but not quite expected.  You can have your chili “3-way” with spaghetti, chili, and cheddar cheese; “4-way” adding either onions or beans; or “5-way” adding both onions and beans.  You could also do a coney dog or a baked potato instead of the spaghetti.

Both M and I went with the 4-way, his with onions and mine with beans.  The kids of course weren’t overly impressed, because they are kids and not very adventurous.  C did have a baked potato, which made him very happy as he could eat baked potatoes every meal and be perfectly fine.

Since the Cincinnati Chili was good, but left the kids a less than full, we decided to also stop for a treat.  I searched online for desserts between where we ate and where we were sleeping and came up with a fun little place called The Cone.

The Cone - Cincinnati, Ohio

Where else can you get an ice cream cone served out of an ice cream cone?  Turns out, several places, actually, but this was a particularly cute cone.  The first clue that this place was popular was the drive through, which snaked through a parking lot and probably would be the equivalent of driving around a block.  Besides the drive through, the tables outside were mostly full, but we did manage to snag one.  There is also a kiddie playground and an arcade, so it might be a fun family spot if you live in the area.

The kids and I all got chocolate vanilla swirl.  J got his in a cup since he doesn’t like cones.  C & G got theirs chocolate dipped, and I got mine chocolate and nut dipped.  It was soft serve ice cream, and pretty much tasted like Dairy Queen or any other soft-serve chain.  Nothing really special, but it was fun and hit the spot before stopping for the night.
