We made it to Colorado! This would be the “destination” of this particular road trip, or the half-way point. We were going to be spending several days in one location this time, thanks to meeting up with some extended family.
Again we were sticking to one corner of the state. That seems to be a theme with this trip. In this case, we’d be covering the NE corner of Colorado. As we left Cheyenne and headed South towards Fort Collins, the mountains just grew bigger and bigger in the window and the kids were getting more and more excited. I was glad we were ahead of schedule as it meant we would be going up the canyon in the light and the kids would be able to see the mountains tonight instead of in the morning.
We stopped at Fort Collins for some dinner, then headed up the canyon toward Estes Park. I’ve always loved the canyon drive. We’ve been coming here since I was a kid. My grandparents moved to EP when I was 8 so I’ve spent a lot of summers there. It always feels like you are there when you hit the canyon. The kids, especially C, were mesmerized looking out the windows!
First stop in Colorado would be for some dinner.
