Colorado Road Trip: Nebraska

After leaving Wind Cave, we drove south to the South Dakota/Nebraska border.  We were finished exploring South Dakota for this trip.  Our trip through Nebraska would cover only the northwest corner of the state this time around.  We had several stops on our list, though.

We would start with overnight in Alliance, followed by a fun stop also in Alliance, and historical stops in Bayard and Scottsbluff.

If you have ever driven across Nebraska, especially if you’ve been mainly along I-80, you probably think of Nebraska as very flat.  Like this:


I have to admit, Nebraska scenery is fairly boring.  But you do see a lot of mountains…of hay bales…


Once you get into far western Nebraska, though, the scenery changes dramatically.  You go from completely flat plains to buttes and foothills almost instantly.


This last picture is a preview of what’s to come.  Do you recognize the place in the background?  We’re headed there soon, but first we have an ancient ruin to visit…
