After leaving Minnesota, we headed west into South Dakota.
South Dakota was a new state for all of us except M who had been to Pierre for work. We spent 2 1/2 days on this trip in South Dakota, and I was really impressed by what we saw. I expected flat and boring, but it was absolutely beautiful! We made several stops in the state to see natural wonders, oddities, and national monuments. This is a state with a lot to offer.
We saw gorgeous scenery as we drove. South Dakota has beautiful rolling hills, and some great farmscapes.
We spent a little time sitting in the parking lot of a gas station south of Pierre waiting for a storm to pass north of us, which made for some great photo ops.
In addition to the beauty of nature, South Dakota does have some quirky things to keep you entertained as you drive. Like a sculpture park in the middle of nowhere:
And the ever present billboards. Especially for Wall Drug. We should have counted, I’m sure it would have been in the hundreds.
We were making good time on our trip, even ahead of schedule at this point. Which left us a good amount of time for our last stop of the day.
