Off the Beaten Path

Off the Beaten Path: Cocoa Beach, Florida

After leaving Walt Disney World via Magic Express bus, we headed back to Orlando International Airport.  We had to take our bags with us since we weren’t actually going to be boarding a plane, but that was still easy to do.  Once we arrived at MCO, we just had to head over to the rental car garage and pick up our car.  After a quick lunch at Five Guys, we began our one hour drive to the east.

The drive takes you right through Port Canaveral.  We were able to see the Disney Cruise Line port from the road.  The Fantasy was in port.  Someday…

The Disney Fantasy was in port on our way to Cocoa Beach...someday...

After about an hour, we arrived in Cocoa Beach.  We checked in to our hotel (more on that later), and decided to head out for a walk on the beach before resting.  After all, we’d been at Disney World for 6 days and we were beat!!

Cocoa Beach is absolutely gorgeous, and in February, it’s really pretty deserted.  The weather was in the 70s, so perfect for us Iowans.  We had most of the beach to ourselves, and were able to collect some sea shells, wade in the ocean, and even spot some dolphins swimming along close to the shore!  Unfortunately I didn’t get any photos of the dolphins because I’d left the camera behind at that point.

The whole family loves the ocean, and we can’t wait to explore more of it on future trips!
